 Welcome to our Final Group Project!

Product:

Your final deliverable may be a report, an essay, a video, an online poster, a newsletter, slides with audio file, or a website. You will follow your Plan/Proposal as well as the feedback provided by your peers and instructor.


Themes/Topics and Process:

You may propose one of the following three types of project:

1) Reference Guide (resources for each communication strategy) - 
  • Advocating, Clarifying, Investigating, Making decisions, Organizing, Participating, Planning, Questioning, Reflecting, Repairing, Setting goals
You will need to do the following (see course site):
  • Find a resource for each of the strategies. You can have overlap (one resource covering a couple strategies)
  • Analyze the validity and usefulness of each and communicate your findings to your audience
  • Create/Design a reference guide to provide your audience (with a focus on the next group of students in the course)

2) Survival Guide
 (RRC support services - see list below), 
  • Academic Success
  • Accessibility Services
  • Counselling Services
  • Diversity on Campus
  • Indigenous Supports
  • International Services
  • Library Services
  • Student Employment
You will need to do the following (see course site):
  • Find resources and information for at least five of the above services and communicate the information to your audience
  • Describe the usefulness and relevance of each resource
  • Relate the services to the strategies presented in this course
  • Create a survival guide to provide your audience

3) Teaching Tool (communication approaches and styles) - 
  • Option 1) Competing, Collaborating, Compromising, Avoiding, Accommodating (Thomas-Kilmann approach); 
  • Option 2): Passive, Passive-aggressive, Aggressive, Assertive, Submissive (Alvernia University example)
You will need to do the following (see course site):
  • Describe each of the styles within the group you selected
  • Create your own original example scenarios for each of the styles
  • Create a teaching tool for your peers with your scenarios for each of the five communication styles


Steps:

Develop your project plan and proposal and include: tasks, roles, and goals for your project. 

Your proposal (what) will provide your instructor with an overview of your plan (how). Your final project will also identify the reason your group chose the topic, the process, and the product (why). 

After the groups have been decided (choice, random draw, computer generated)

  • Task 1: submit a draft of the plan and the proposal for feedback
  • Task 2: submit final version (use the same template if you wish)
